An Action Movie Unlike Any Other | Aavesham

Caption: The title of the movie beautifully captures the essence of the story.

I went into the movie thinking I’d be watching a vanilla action movie with tonnes of fighting. But what I instead got was a beautiful movie with a brilliant story and top class acting.

Note: This is a spoiler free post.

Before watching the movie

I’d heard about Aavesham from some friends of mine when I visited India. It was a movie both starring and produced by Fahadh Faasil (under Fahadh Faasil and Friends), a popular actor from Kerala.1

Having watched some of his other movies like Kumbalangi Nights and Bangalore Days, I was quite hyped given his movies are usually unique.

After watching the trailer a few times, I finally settled in to watch the movie one fine Sunday evening. I started the movie a bit later than usual, and I was worried that I might fall asleep (which I’m not proud to admit that I did for one of the most popular movies of this year).

The movie

Premise

Three college students find themselves in a bit of a sticky situation. Their seniors at college target them as a result of their actions. This leads to them wanting revenge on their leader.

Shanthan, the most proactive of the three, decides that the group needs what he calls local support. Their nemesis (the leader of the seniors) was never seen alone, which meant the three required a group as well if they wanted to attack him.

And so they set on a quest for revenge. And their plan to garner local support was to visit every shady bar they could find in the hopes of befriending a group willing to fight for them.

Story

The movie follows a typical 8 point structure. It is paced very well. I felt actively engaged throughout the movie.

The movie is mega-funny as well. Except for the more serious bits of the movie, it had me laughing throughout. This came both from the script writing and the brilliant execution by the actors.

Each character is also given due thought about their storyline. Their individual character arcs brilliantly come together in the end.

Acting

The movie has some brilliant performances from all the actors — especially Fahadh Faasil — who gives a wonderful performance that has you convinced that he is Bangalore’s most notorious gangster.

There is also no holding back in some of their action sequences, with the stunt team putting on a beautiful show.

Music

The score for the movie is done by Sushin Shyam. He is well known in the Malayalam film industry for many previous hits, such as Kumbalangi Nights.

I was listening to the movie soundtrack every opportunity I got. My personal favourite being Adholokam.

Wrapping up

Fahadh Fahad and Friends have delivered another banger of a movie in Aavesham). This movie also got me interested in other movies by the actor. Personally, I will be rewatching it to appreciate it further.

And that’s why I highly recommendAavesham!
